Course Overview |
|
- Fire Legislation and Standards - To give the delegate an understanding of the growth of fire safety legislation and the impact of the Fire Safety Order 2005, Building Regulations and associated standards and guidance relating to fire.

Hazards - To give the delegate an understanding of the hazards which could cause an incidence of fire with its potential fire spread particularly with the regard to the control of dangerous substances.

Means of Escape - To give the delegate an understanding of the term 'means of escape' and the related features which safeguard persons during the evacuation phase, including the importance of strategies and the measures necessary to be taken to maintain the means of escape.

Fire Safety Signs - To give the delegate a general understanding of the requirements relating to the provision of fire safety signs and notices including types, location and maintenance of signage.

Fire Alarm Systems - To give the delegate a general understanding of the requirements relating to fire alarm systems, including the need, selection, types and maintenance.

Information Management - To give the delegate an understanding of the information management associated with your Fire Risk Assessment. This will include acting upon any remedial works and updating information.

Roles and Responsibilities - To give the delegate an understanding of their role and responsibilities in managing fire risk(s) in buildings and to understand corporate, managers and employees responsibilities.

Structural Fire Protection - To give the delegate a general understanding of the structural fire protection provided in buildings to prevent their premature collapse in a fire and ensure that the means of escape can be used at all material times. To recognize a number of key factors in relation to building construction.

Fire Fighting Equipment - To give the delegate an understanding of the requirement relating to the provision of portable fire fighting equipment, including types, location and maintenance of extinguishers.

Escape Lighting Systems - To give the delegate a general understanding of the requirements relating to the escape lighting systems, including the need, types, operating modes, essential location and maintenance.

Risk Management - To give the delegate an understanding of the role of a site manager and of the systems and procedures required to be put in place to effectively manage risk. This includes the evacuation process, the importance of the routine maintenance of systems, training of staff, emergency services liaison and planning a response to fire.
